CPCS

Construction Plant Competence Scheme

CPCS is a card scheme designed to prove the practical skills and health and safety awareness of plant operators. It is the largest and most widely recognised qualification for the construction plant industry and is accepted on all UK construction sites.

How to acquire a CPCS Card

To acquire a CPCS card the candidate must have passed a Health, Safety and Environmental touch screen test within the previous 2 years. Call 01638 751492 to book.

The next stage is a Theory Test which consists of around 40 questions over 30 minutes, depending on the category of plant. The questions are asked verbally by an examiner. This process normally takes about 1 hour and must be carried out at our test centre.

After successful completion of the Theory Test the candidate must then pass a Practical Operating Test which takes between 1 and 3 hours depending on the category of plant. The test must also be taken at our test centre. After passing the practical test the candidate will be issued with a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card which lasts a maximum of 2 years. During this period the candidate must achieve an NVQ to convert the red card to a Blue CPCS Competent Operator Card.

Aurelia can carry out any training that may be required, from complete beginners to refresher sessions for experienced operators as well as NVQs.

  • Accepted on all UK construction sites

  • Helps you meet your health and safety obligations

  • Helping to set industry standards for over 30 years

NPORS

National Plant Operators Registration Scheme

The main objective of NPORS is to allow accredited training providers a flexible approach to meet the needs of the employer and to help and assist in providing an adequately trained workforce across the UK. Training and assessment can be carried out either on site or at our training centre.

Since NPORS was formed in 1992 it has worked hard to ensure that appropriate training is being delivered to the workforce in the Construction, Utilities, Distribution and Warehousing, Ports and Marine, Rail and Agricultural sectors. NPORS has to date, registered around 200,000 operators who have been employed across all UK industry sectors. The Health & Safety Executive recognise NPORS training providers as competent to train, test and certificate operators.

An NPORS operator registration card is produced for an individual who has successfully completed a practical and knowledge assessment on the type of equipment shown on the back of the card. If the operator has gained an NPORS recognised health and safety qualification this can also be shown on the card.

  • NPORS are a CSCS partner card scheme.

  • Independent of any training board or trade association.

  • The scheme supports the training as well as testing

IPAF

The International Powered Access Federation

The mission of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) is to advocate for the safe and efficient utilisation of powered access equipment globally. This is achieved through the provision of technical guidance, influencing legislative and standard-setting processes, and implementing safety campaigns and training initiatives.

IPAF operates as a non-profit entity, collectively owned by its diverse membership base. This membership includes manufacturers, rental firms, distributors, contractors and end-users. Notably, IPAF members are responsible for operating the majority of Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) rental fleets worldwide and manufacturing approximately 85% of the platforms available in the market.

  • Qualify for PAL card – Powered Access License

  • IPAF is a not-for-profit organisation

  • MEWP, MCWP & Scissor Lift Training

NVQ – NOCN

National Vocational Qualification

An NVQ is a nationally recognised qualification which provides formal proof of the skills and experience gained, so that a current or prospective employer can see that they have a competent and skilled employee.

Although an NVQ is a stand-alone qualification an operator must gain an NVQ to convert a Red Trained Operator Card into a Blue Competent Operator Card under CPCS and from October 2016, anyone working in construction under the NPORS accreditation.

To gain an NVQ the candidate must first register with an accredited NVQ Centre, such as Aurelia. During an induction process the procedure will be explained to the candidate and site visits will be discussed and dates and locations agreed.

Under normal circumstances each NVQ will require two visits to a working site to allow the assessor to observe the candidate operating the plant under normal working conditions.

Often the candidate may need to achieve an NVQ on more than one category of plant so where possible our assessors can carry out more than one observation per visit which will speed up the whole process while reducing costs.

Ideally the whole NVQ procedure should not take more than three months to complete.

  • Recognised by the CPCS card scheme

  • In partnership with the apprenticeship system

  • NOCN is a registered charity
